Discord is a popular instant messaging app used for everything from casual conversations to professional workspaces. While the mobile apps and desktop clients for Discord are quite similar, there are some subtle differences. For example, Discord’s mobile apps require that you use an account password to make certain modifications. This means that when you want to change your username or remove a phone number, you must enter in your password.

Discord allows users to delete their accounts through its web client, however, you can’t simply remove your phone number from Discord’s website. Instead, you’ll have to go through the mobile Discord apps, where the option to delete a phone number will appear. However, there are limitations on what you can actually do with this feature.

On the Discord website, it’s possible to edit any of your personal details as long as they’re associated with your account. That includes your phone number. If you don’t have a mobile device, then removing your phone number would be easier than if you were using Discord’s mobile app. However, there are limitations.

To begin with, you need to understand that while you can replace one phone number with another, you cannot simply delete it outright without providing an alternative. That may seem a bit odd, but it makes sense: you can’t allow someone else to access your account using another phone number. In addition, if you try deleting the only phone number that you’ve registered with Discord, it won’t let you. As such, Discord has limited options to choose from:

Delete the entire account

Replace your phone number with a different valid number under your control

You can also delete your phone number from Discord on Android and iOS by following these steps:

On Android

Open up Discord’s mobile app, and tap on your profile icon in the top-left corner. Next, tap on the User Settings icon. Under the Account tab, you’ll see the Phone field, which displays the number you added during registration. Tap on it to open the menu, then tap on “Remove Phone Number” (you can also just tap on the phone number itself). You’ll now be asked to confirm your password — Discord’s mobile apps require your account password for changes like these — before you’re shown the option to tap “Done.”

On iOS

Tapping on your profile picture at the top left brings up the same menu, so select “User Settings.” From there, select the “Account” tab, and again, you’ll find the Phone field. Again, tap it, and tap “Remove Phone Number” from the options provided. You’ll again be asked to enter your Discord password before being shown the option to tap “Done.”

On the Discord website

The process for deleting your phone number is similar: click on your profile icon in the top-right corner, and select “User Settings.” Under “My Account,” you’ll find the “Remove/Edit” link. Clicking it brings up a menu where you can add, change, or remove a phone number. Simply tap on the phone number field, and you’ll see an option to remove it.

It should be noted that even if you try deleting your phone number from Discord’s website, you’ll still be asked to provide your password for verification.

If you’ve decided to delete your phone number, you can also take the opportunity to update other details about your Discord account, including your username, email address, and birthday. Keep in mind, though, that once your phone number is deleted, you won’t be able to log back into your account unless you have an alternative login method.
