There are several causes why Discord fails to work on a phone, such as app files being corrupted; another app interfering with the app's operations; the app becoming stuck; or simply not opening. When this happens, we’ll walk through a variety of troubleshooting steps you can take to fix Discord.

The problem is often one of either Discord itself or your Android/iOS device. But there’s an easier way to test it: check what Discord’s server status is at any given time. If Discord isn’t working for others, then the issue may be outside your control. Otherwise, we’ve provided steps that will help you fix Discord.

When audio or voice fails on an Android phone, however, there are additional problems that can be resolved separately in our dedicated resource. Finally, when errors appear about your phone number, they usually stem from either formatting issues or a failure to match your country’s numbering plan.

Discord on mobile (iOS/Android) will fail to open, close immediately, or crash if one of these conditions is true:

  • The app files on your device are corrupted.
  • Another app is running in the background and consuming too many resources, thereby affecting how Discord runs.
  • You have some kind of error within Discord itself, but no error message appears to tell you what it is.

If none of these are the case, the problem may be more specific to Discord on your device. For example, sometimes the app just doesn’t want to start up.

But don’t give up! A simple reboot might fix the issue. So, try the following troubleshooting steps before trying anything else:

  1. Restart Discord
  1. Restart your phone
  1. Check for updates
  1. Ensure permissions are enabled

We suggest you attempt these fixes first since it won’t affect other apps, which means it’s unlikely to cause further problems.

Check Discord’s Server Status

Sometimes Discord is down or having an outage that prevents it from functioning normally. In those cases, users across the globe report their own experiences. This allows us to determine whether the outage affects everyone or only a single user.

In addition, we’re also able to track outages in real-time using outage-tracking tools. These tools can help ensure that we’re looking at the right issue, and that the problem really is on your end.

Audio and Voice Failures on Android Phones

One unique challenge that affects Android users who rely on Discord is ensuring that audio and voice work properly. There are two distinct ways that this can happen, and both are described in detail here: Discord Voice and Video Troubleshooting Guide.

This section provides details on each potential solution and what you should do.

Phone Number Errors

You may have seen an error like the following pop up in Discord: “Invalid number.” What does it mean? It means that either the number entered was formatted incorrectly or is otherwise invalid in the country it was entered from.

For example, if you enter a U.S. phone number in Germany, the system considers it invalid. That’s because the number is not valid according to the United States’ numbering plan. Therefore, even though the number exists in the database of numbers, the system doesn’t consider it valid because of where it was entered from.
