Discord Screen Share No Audio: How to Fix It on Android and Windows

A known bug has been affecting the ability for users to include audio when sharing their screen using Discord on Android.

Discord has provided a workaround in this case: updating the Android System WebView through the Google Play Store. We’ll take you step-by-step below.

The missing screen share audio problem appears on both Discord desktop and mobile, although it appears that the issue is only related to Android. On PC, there are some settings available within Discord which allow you to configure your screen share audio output, as well as set default input and output devices.

If you’re experiencing missing screen share audio on Discord on either platform, here’s what you can do to fix the problem.

There are two steps to take in order to fix the problem where audio isn’t included in Discord screen shares on Android.

Update Android System WebView via Google Play Store

Discord’s support team recommends that users try and update Android System WebView via the Google Play Store.

Set default audio device(s)

Next, make sure that your audio device (both input and output) are properly set. To do so:

Navigate to Settings

Scroll down to Apps

Find “Android System WebView” within the app list

Tap on the three dots (menu) in the top right corner

Select “Clear cache”

Select “Clear storage”

Confirm your actions and return to Settings

Set Android System WebView back to default (within the Play Store) as your primary device

To ensure that all of your devices are properly set, navigate to the following locations in Settings:

Settings > System > Sound > Output

Settings > System > Sound > Input

Both these locations will contain the current output and input devices that you’ve selected, respectively.

You can also attempt setting them from within the individual applications themselves:

When sharing your screen via Discord on Windows, it’s important to ensure that the correct audio devices are selected for input and output within Discord itself. This includes the communication defaults, which control how your system plays sound, how your microphone records sound, and how your communication devices work together.

By default, Discord should use the correct audio input and output devices. If they aren’t being used, however, we recommend setting them manually within Discord’s own settings. These can be accessed by clicking the gear icon at the bottom-left of the window, then selecting “Advanced” from the dropdown menu.

Here, you’ll see a section labeled “Sound.” By default, Discord uses whatever audio input/output devices Windows has set as the default. But again, if the wrong devices are being used, we recommend explicitly selecting them.

You can select the communication defaults directly within the application, too.

Discord’s support article provides the following standard solution for missing audio during a screen share: “Make sure that the correct audio input/output devices are selected within your operating system settings, then go to [Discord] Preferences > Voice & Video > Advanced… and check if the audio input and output devices are set correctly.”
